The Department for Education have published the latest in a series of home learning resources for children and young people with SEND:

Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

This list of SEND resources has been developed with a focus on accessibility and inclusivity and has been collected and assured with support from:

  • trusted SEND organisations
  • SEND charities
  • multi-academy trusts
  • special education headteachers

This includes:

  • SEN World
  • The New Bridge Group
  • Snowflake School
  • Coop Academy Southfield
  • Chailey Heritage Schools
  • The Eden Academy Trust

The vast majority of the resources on this list are suitable for both parents and teachers to use in supporting the home learning of children and young people with SEND.

We encourage parents, teachers and schools to explore beyond this list to identify what support is best for their children and pupils with SEND.

To support parents in using these resources, we have also published information for parents and carers in supporting the home education of children and young people, which includes specific guidance for children and young people with SEND.

Additionally, your local authority may have a Local Offer signposting to useful resources. Research suggests that some approaches, such as task checklists, may be particularly beneficial for pupils with SEND.

The tips for supporting home learning are particularly relevant for children with SEND, especially:

  • reading together
  • engaging in talk and encouragement
  • structuring the day
  • finding routines
